Let The Games Begin!

On Friday, February 7, all Lincoln Grade School students and staff had the opportunity to participate in an all school assembly for the 2014 Winter Olympics.  Each class had the opportunity to represent one or two of the countries that is participating in the winter games.  Every student created a flag of the country they were representing and marched into the assembly.  Once all of the students had been introduced, the olympic flame was brought in (Mrs. McGahey - 3rd Grade) and the announcement was given "Let The Games Begin."

The "Star Spangled Banner" was performed by students from Mrs. Sainer's music class.  Winners were then announced from each grade level that won the Olympic Mascot drawing contest.  Those winners were Sarah Staller, 5th grade; Junior Solis, 4th grade; and Lexi Weger, 3rd Grade.

Celebration Assembly

DSC0001Lincoln Grade School had an all school celebration assembly on Thursday, January 30th!  The purpose of the assembly was for the school to celebrate various accomplishments and upcoming events.  The first item to celebrate was excellent attendance in which 225 students maintained a 95% attendance rate or higher for second quarter.  The second item to celebrate was the ATTITUDE award which is given to the class that displays the best effort and attitude in specials classes.  The winning class for second quarter was Mrs. Swisher's class.  At the conclusion of the assembly each student had the opportunity to place a Denver Bronco or Seattle Seahawk jersey on a banner which predicted who was going to win the Superbowl!  The picture shown has many Bronco fans placing their vote on the Denver Bronco banner.

Lincoln Grade School students will be celebrating the Winter Olympics as each class will develop an olympic mascot of the country they have selected to participate in the olympics.  All of the mascots will be voted on and a winner selected from each grade level.  The official Olympic torch will begin its journey on Tuesday, February 4th in the third grade.  It will travel to the 4th grade on February 5th, and 5th grade on February 6th.

Friday, February 7th is the official day of the opening ceremonies and we will have our opening ceremoney at 1:10 in the gym.  Classes will line up in the hallway with their flags.  Their country will be announced as they enter the gym.  Mrs. Sainer will have a group of students come forward and sing our National Anthem and then the mascot winners will be announced.  Finally, the torch will make its way into the gym and Mr. McConnell will announce "Let the games begin!"  Students will receive an Olypic treat donated by our PTO as they exit the gym.
