Return to School - Guidelines for Parents
Dear Parents and Guardians:
With the newly updated COVID-19 guidance from the CDC released this week, we want to keep our families informed of the changes. Students experiencing any COVID-19 symptom (listed below) during the school day must be excluded from school.

According to CDC/IDPH Guidance:
Your child will need to stay home for:

At least 24 hours after fever has resolved (without fever-reducing medication)
AND -
All other symptoms have improved
AND -
It has been at least 5 days since the onset of symptoms
Students may return in fewer than 5 days after meeting one of these conditions:
-
With doctor’s note stating alternate diagnosis as a reason for symptoms
OR -
With documentation of negative COVID-19 test

SHIELD COVID Testing
Robinson CUSD#2 is partnering with the University of Illinois to test students, teachers, and staff members for COVID-19 infection using the University of Illinois’ rapid rtPCR test (“SHIELD Test”). This non-invasive COVID-19 test is VOLUNTARY AND FREE to all CUSD2 students and staff and is at no cost to the district. If you consent, your child will receive a free SHIELD diagnostic test for the COVID-19 virus conducted by collecting saliva. A third-party medical agency, will facilitate and administer SHIELD testing. Testing will be conducted at least once a week per current Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations as adopted by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
Why SHIELD Testing
IDPH partnered with SHIELD Illinois to provide weekly testing to participating schools utilizing the SHIELD Illinois saliva-based RT-PCR testing. Screening tests for SARS-CoV-2 are intended to identify infected persons who are asymptomatic and without known or suspected exposure to SARS-CoV-2. Screening tests are performed to identify persons who may be contagious to prevent further transmission. Screening tests can be an effective mitigation strategy, especially in areas with high-to-moderate community transmission.
Test Results and Confidentiality
Families who consent to SHIELD testing will receive access to your child’s test results online (more information coming soon.) CUSD2 nurses will also receive results of your child’s test and may/will notify you separately of any positive result. All results are confidential and protected under HIPAA and FERPA. The IDPH, and Crawford County Health Department will also receive your child’s test results, consistent with IDPH guidance and the Illinois Control of Communicable Disease Code.
Consent for Testing
Parents/Guardians must complete the SHIELD COVID Testing Consent Form for each child they would like to participate in the weekly testing. Parents/Guardians must choose – or “Opt In” -- to give consent for their child(ren) to be tested.
Other Testing Options
Robinson CUSD2 will now be able to offer other testing options including a “Test to Stay” program and symptomatic testing. “Test to Stay” allows individuals in close contact to participate in SHIELD testing on days 1, 3, 5, 7. If test results are negative, the individual is not required to be excluded from in person instruction. The additional testing options will be available ONLY to students who are signed up for the weekly screening testing.
Timeline for Testing
- Consent forms can be completed at any time and returned to the attention of the school nurse at your child’s school. Any new enrollees will take at least 1 week to be added to the program.
- SHIELD testing is projected to start the week of January 17th

Dear Robinson CUSD#2 Families,
On behalf of the entire Robinson CUSD#2 staff, I want to express how excited we are to be welcoming back your students tomorrow. Again this year we are facing challenges and some modifications to the typical school experience. These challenges do not diminish the great sense of anticipation and happiness that we feel on this eve of the first day of the 21-22 school year.
As you may be aware, our 2021-2022 Return to School Committee created a plan based on the Guidance for K-12 Schools published by the CDC. Our goal with the plan was to provide in-person instruction and educational experiences safely while minimizing disruptions to the learning process and, when possible, adapt our prevention strategies to be more or less intensive depending on the level of community transmission in Crawford County. The draft version of this document can be found on the Covid-19 dashboard of the district website here. Included in this draft plan is a statement that Robinson CUSD#2 will comply with directives from any official or agency with the authority to issue directives to public schools. This happened with regard to universal mask requirements in all PreK-12 schools on August 4, 2021 with the issuance of Executive Order 2021-18.
At the August 16, 2021 Board of Education meeting, the Robinson CUSD#2 Board affirmed by a 6-0 vote that Robinson CUSD#2 would comply with the universal masking requirement. However, to clarify, they have not yet approved the full return to school plan. The Board of Education has directed the Return to School committee to make some additions and revisions to the draft plan. I would like to highlight two of those forthcoming updates.
One update is with regard to “mask breaks” during the school day. Mask breaks were encouraged during the 20-21 school year. This year we feel it is important that mask breaks are planned each day. Schedules will be slightly different at each school but mask breaks will occur. The final wording that will appear in the plan and each individual school’s schedule will be communicated as soon as possible but mask breaks will occur tomorrow and each school day until masks are no longer required.
Another update will be in the Remote Learning section of the plan. Last year, the state required us to provide a remote learning option to all students as an alternative to in-person learning. In contrast, this year, schools “must resume fully in-person learning for all student attendance days” with the exception of students who are not eligible for a vaccine and are under a quarantine order. This language from the Illinois State Board of Education resolution was included in our draft plan. We now realize that this language may be interpreted to mean that nothing will be provided to our students 12 and older. This will not be the case. Quarantine periods will be treated like any excused absence for all students. Our students at all grade levels will be provided with classwork and the support necessary to keep up with their work. This will include access to a licensed teacher as needed to provide explanations and answer questions.
We all look forward to a time when such plans and precautions are no longer necessary. Until then, thank you for your patience and cooperation as together embark on what I am confident will be a successful school year.

CUSD #2 COVID Health Policies
2021-2022
Students that display one of more of the following symptoms will be evaluated by the school nurse and sent home from school:
- Fever 100.0 or higher
- Moderate/Severe headache
- Shortness of breath
- New cough
- Sore throat
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- New loss of sense of taste or smell
- Fatigue of an unknown cause
- Muscle or body aches from an unknown cause
Students that stay home or are sent home for any of these symptoms will need a negative COVID test, alternative diagnosis from a physician, or will need to remain out of school for 10 days before they can return.
Siblings may remain at school for the day as long as they are asymptomatic and the ill student sent home provides a negative COVID test or alternative diagnosis from a physician the following school day.
Close Contact Tracing in Schools per IDPH
Students/staff that are masked and 3ft apart from a COVID positive individual (student or staff) do not need to be quarantined if asymptomatic. If masks are not universally worn by staff and students, all individuals within 6 feet for 15 minutes or greater in a 24 hour period of the positive case will be placed on quarantine for fourteen days.
Students/staff that are unmasked and not 6ft apart from a COVID positive individual will be quarantined per the Crawford County Health Department. Students should be maintained at a six foot distance for breakfast and lunch as much as possible. For students who are within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes will be quarantined per the Crawford County Health Department.
Vaccinated staff/students exposed to a COVID positive individual do not need to quarantine as long as they remain asymptomatic.
Students/staff that have tested positive within the past 90 days do not need to quarantine if exposed to a COVID positive individual within the 90 day immunity period.
Bus contacts that are within 6ft of a COVID positive individual (two rows in front, two rows behind, and the row across) will be quarantined per the Crawford County Health Department.
We will adhere to the guidelines for contact tracing in sports per IDPH.
Shorter quarantine options are only available for students who are returning to a school where masks are universally worn by all staff and students.
Nursing staff will NOT be administering medications for COVID symptoms. Routine medications will be given to students who have the appropriate authorization forms on file and for non COVID symptoms only.
